It’s great to meet you.

Our story.

Regulation Station began with a simple but powerful idea: that supporting children to develop emotional regulation skills early can shape their wellbeing for life.

Laura and Ash first crossed paths in Brisbane. At the time, Ash was working as a provisional psychologist, spending her spare time at pilates, visiting local markets and exploring Queensland. Laura had recently moved from New Zealand to Australia and was working as an early childhood teacher, enjoying Brisbane’s food scene, op-shopping adventures and time with family.

Through many conversations about their work, Laura and Ash recognised an opportunity to combine their expertise in psychology, human movement and health, and early childhood education to better support young children’s emotional development and build something meaningful.

Research consistently shows that early childhood is a critical window for developing emotional regulation skills — the ability to recognise, understand and manage feelings. When these skills are nurtured early, children are better supported with school readiness, positive relationships, resilience and long-term wellbeing.

But what exactly is emotional regulation?

In simple terms, it’s a child’s ability to recognise, understand and manage their feelings. These skills help children calm their bodies, communicate their needs and navigate big emotions like frustration, sadness or excitement. When children learn these skills early, they’re better equipped for school, friendships and life’s challenges.

In May last year, Laura and Ash took their first big step and showcased their work at their first expo. They were thrilled to receive enthusiastic feedback from parents and early learning centers, who recognised just how needed this kind of support was. There were plenty of conversations, curious questions — and yes, quite a few lollies handed out too.

Soon after, they began running trial classes across Brisbane, partnering with early learning centers and playgroups. Every piece of feedback was taken seriously, helping them refine and strengthen their workshops.

Today, Ash has returned to her hometown of Adelaide, while Laura continues to live in Brisbane — allowing Regulation Station to support communities across both cities.

What began as an idea between two passionate professionals has grown into a mission: to help children build the emotional skills they need to thrive.

If you’re a parent, early learning center or educator looking to support children in developing healthy emotional regulation skills, we’d love to work with you.
